Time

June 22, 2008

Only time is permanent.

Stones won’t last
nor monuments,

roads are changed
and buildings moved,

forests laid waste
and rivers dammed,

even matter and energy
change places.

Suns are born
and stars will die,

but only time remains alive.

Silhouettes

June 15, 2008

Tracings in the sand
lines on a canvas
smears around the clay
a few notes fill the air.

A monument materializes
a statement takes shape
a feeling is captured.

Spectators only guess
at the silhouettes
that crawled at birth.

Attention Krypton

June 15, 2008

The trash pails
are filled
with fresh vegetables
today.

Old wooden buildings
depend upon each other
The sun continues bleaching
Once yellow paint.

Several neighbors
sit around in the shade,
long past the times
of dark skin contests.

The ice is gone
bbefore the tea.

A manager shuffles
over cement faults.
Solemn relatives
do their duty,
but the sign
is already out.
